Double check the turbo hoses Posted by Notnoel [Email] (#23) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Notnoel) on Sat, 25 Jun 2011 11:38:03 In Reply to: Enigma, ZBaron [Profile/Gallery] , Sat, 25 Jun 2011 09:35:07 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I've had similar symptoms twice on my 1990. Both times there was a small nearly invisible tear in a hose. With the car off or idling it is no issue, but as the turbo spools up, the split opens up and screws up the fuel metering (fuel and air no longer properly calibrated). the first time it was a tear near in the short hose where the BPV plugs in and I found that pretty quickly because it required a tear down to inspect it. The second time was much more nefarious; It was the short hose just in front of the throttle body. I must have examined it a dozen times (without taking it off). Eventually, I too the whole intake system apart, and it was only when I flexed it in my hands that I noticed the split. Concentric tears parallel to the ribs on the hose are very difficult to see. Another common place is the breather hose to the valve cover.
