Last weekend (17th-19th) I went from Loveland (Denver) to Tucson on Friday, Tucson to Prescott on Saturday, & Prescott to Loveland on Sunday.
The car started the trip with 265k mi on the all-original, non-turbo drivetrain. The only thing I wish I'd had: cruise control! (It took two days for normal feeling to return to my right butt-cheek!)
Everything worked great, including the 5 yr old Envirosafe A/C refrigerant & the brand new throttle cable I built out of a mountain bike brake cable. I picked up my son in Tucson & packed the car full of his belongings for the return trip via Prescott; probably a good 400-500 lbs of kid & crap. A few of the mountain passes required full A/C & full heat to keep us & the engine within acceptable temp range, but luckily that was just on a few of the grades.
Preparations I made especially for the trip included fresh Mobil 1 0W-40 in the transmission, new front brake pads, & (finally) replacing the radio antenna with one that would retract again. I would've liked to have corrected my front passenger wheel's .005" rotor wobble, but replacing the antenna took a LOT longer than I expected & I simply ran out of weekends.
Now it's on to replacing the 9³'s rear spoiler & rear shocks for the upcoming 3600 mile trip we've got planned for that car in August.
The Southeast US in August - can you say "steamy"? :-D
