You need the relay to even start the car - the ignition system and fuel injection system will not work without one. I don't think I'd plug something in there without a significant investigation first. If insulation etc. in the fusebox vaporized, you could end up with wires touching each other that positively shouldn't. You may have also smoked a ground wire, and without an intended ground electricity has a way of making its own. You don't want it to turn something random into a ground wire.
If it needs to be moved now, I'd have it towed. If you can spend a couple hours reasonably inspecting exposed wiring, removing the fuse panel and looking underneath, etc. and can don't find anything obviously melted I'd try running it. If anything is still amiss, you'll find it pretty quickly that way. Just be prepared to shut down down quickly if you do.
