Well I've changed a few inner drivers in my day (11 years and counting on the C900s). My turbo 5 speed cars have tended to wear a divot into the driving surface there obviously the tripod roller contacts the inner driver. These being from an autobox and the anemic lame Mitsu turbo which won't even boost into the yellow (new CHRA needed) the drive surfaces of the inner drivers look very good, and by "feel" they don't have any impressions. I cleaned them out completely and repacked the cavities with the supplied black/grey moly grease supplied with the CHINA EMPI axles. Whilst it was apart, I rotated both inner drivers thru the spider gears and they felt very smooth, better than my 5 speeds did (I've rebuilt a pair of those as well, from slave to pinion bearings). Given the good feeling of those, there is no "obvious" bearing problem in the diff.
One year ago when I was resurrecting this convertible, I did the complete ATF flush of the box, and also drained/refilled the diff. with I think 80W gear oil (whatever was in the Bentley).
Regarding the question about one CLUNK/tire rev, I'd say definitely not. When backing up the hill from my basement garage it was a freq. of 2-3 clunks/second, and that was going maybe 5 mph?
I've changed the RH (pass) motor mount as I know feisty turbo's kill those, but I did not change the front mount. PERHAPS it is banging off the steel safety loop, presuming the auto has one (I've changed those as well in my C900T 5 speed with hard boosting Garrett T3 :-) ). That is definitely a suspect, but does that explain the buzzing sound? Or the mild electrical smell when idling?
I know the auto's can fall over dead anywhere from 130K onward. This one shifts firmly, but only once didn't want to make the 2-3 shift without goosing the throttle.
I'll take a look at that front mount and see if it has failed. I can't believe the autotragic is dying, but perhaps these fail differently from the traditional boxes.
