Also, even within some of the special edition series of cars there are some rarities. Within the SPG (Special Performance Group) series of coupes the Talledega Red and the Beryl Green ones are the rarest. The '85 was the first year for the SPG and it has the pre-'87 face lift "flat front" that appeals to many people, but beware... they have an issue with degrading wire harnesses. The rarest of the SPGs are the pearl white prototypes. Be prepared to pay top dollar if you want one. There are only like 4 of them. The Monte Carlo Yellow 1991 SE (Special Edition) convertibles are pretty rare. Known as the Bumble Bee because they have black tops, yellow bodies and dark gray lower body panels. '86 was the first year for the 'verts, so they are becoming collectable. 1988's Springtime in Sweden (SiS) convertibles are limited number cars. One was given to each US dealer that attended a special event in Sweden. They are black with black top and Buffalo Gray interior and they have the SPG kit (lower body panels) on them. They came with a little Springtime in Sweden emblem on the glove box. The emblems were just stuck on, so over the years many got separated from the cars. If you find a car with the emblem still attached, you'll likely pay more. There are plenty of clones out there (Not that the clones are any less in the enjoyment department, but the real deal is theoretically more valuable). Lastly, there's the Commemorative Edition cars. They are where I hang my hat. I maintain the registry for them, so instead of blathering on endlessly here, I just post a link to the website below.

I think that even an owner assembled car could be a rarity. I see some awesome 900s at shows that people have put together themselves with OEM accessories and custom mods that are in many ways better than the factory special edition cars--one-offs basically.
