no problem...
I've done 10 sheets of plywood before... 4 or 5 sheets of drywall on top of a layer (5-10?) 2x4's... cement board... filled the car with tile (ok that was stupid + didn't go on the rack)... that car has hauled more than most pickups! basically all the building supplies needed to restore/rebuild a 100 year old house...
The Thule bars will bend a little in the middle but they are strong. Yakima bars don't bend but the Thule gutter towers are better (yes, I am crazy, I have both)... The other nice thing about Thule towers is when you drive into the garage with bikes on the roof, it seems the towers get mangled but the bikes + roof survive (though I don't recommend trying that yourself, I've been there 2x!)... gutter towers are available used dirt cheap because no cars have gutters anymore!
good luck with your shelf!
James...
