will glow continuously when the amount of fuel is below 1.8 gallons . This seemed fairly accurate in my 88 spg . The light would start flickering at about half a gallon more than when it got lower and "glowed continuously" (on but not flickering) . This flickering state , which varied depending on where the gas was sloshing in the tank based on the car's movement , was probably around the amount Larry stated of 2-2.5 gallons . 88 tank capacity is 16.6 gallons . Later models capacity is about 2 gallons more . I don't know if the specs were different for the low fuel light with this larger tank . Let us know what you figure out , because I have my own questions about this system since I'm trying to figure if mine stopped working or my mileage recently jumped for some unknown reason . My driving habits have not changed , but the light is not coming on after the amount of miles that used to light it and then some more miles to get it to come on . I don't want to push it too far and suck up debris from the bottom of the tank . I know the light itself still works if I connect the wires at the sender . I don't know if I can use the amount of gallons needed to get the gas pump nozzle to shut off as an indicator . In other words , if the gas pump nozzle shuts off at 14.6 gallons , can I subtract this from the capacity and assume there was actually 2 gallons left in the tank before filling or could this vary in accuracy depending on various factors such as type of nozzle , how it is held and any other factor that would decide how far the nozzle actually fills the tank ?
