Do you have a timing light?

A quick check for spark is to clip an inductive timing light onto any of the spark plug leads, and if it's not self powered, to +12V and ground. Then see if it flashes regularly while you're cranking the engine. Some fat rubber bands around the trigger, then pointing it up toward the windshield, let me do this alone.
A quick check to see if it's getting fuel is to try spraying a good shot of brake cleaner, or other flammable such as starting fluid, into the intake manifold. If it roars briefly to life when cranking, it would seem that it's not getting fuel via the normal route but otherwise wants to run. If it doesn't roar to life, suspect spark.
(No chance you're out of fuel, is there? Just in case it's that easy. I just bought a car from a guy who at first told me he thought it needed a fuel pump. Cranked but wouldn't start. As I diagnosed things and told him the fuel pump seemed to run fine when jumpered, he put some gas into the car and it started. Fuel gauge was bad. I still got the car at a good price.)
