Rant on high mileage Saab for sale Posted by PaulS [Email] (#676) [Profile/Gallery] (more from PaulS) on Thu, 26 Jan 2012 20:06:39 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I hate it when I see a used classic on craigslist (or where ever) and they say something like "only 200,000 miles. These cars easily go 300,000 miles".
In my opinion, the only reason Saabs last so long is that they are worth fixing and they have owners who keep fixing them. It's pretty hard to get to a Saab to 200K (let alone 300K) for "free". Most classics that "work for a living" will have had transmission problems, needed a rack and probably had rust repair. The thing is your 20 year old Toyota needs a transmission and you junk it. Your 20 year old Saab needs a transmission and you pull one out of the pile and spend a weekend doing the swap. (And you reseal the oil pump, fix the control arm bushing, replace the alt. bushings and brushes, replace the water pump, etc. etc.) THAT'S why they last so long. It's not like they welded the hood shut in Trollhatten and we've only done oil changes.
