Car is a 1989 900T vert with auto box. It's my son's car that he has at college. He left it there over winter break because it was acting up on him. Running real rough and coughing black smoke. He said it seemed like it wasn't running on all cylinders. He though it was a blown head gasket, because it came on all at once--a quick surge and then staled and was tough to get running. He got it started this week but it's still acting odd. Here's what he texted me:
So, my car runs fine most of the time, but sometimes it will start idling high and I get black smoke out the exhaust. This is when the car can't be driven, because if you give the car gas it starts to stall. I pulled over and disconnected the AIC and then reconnected it. The problem goes away and then I can drive it.
The car has new plugs (NKG), wires (bougicord), cap and rotor (Bosch), new oxygen sensor, AIC has been cleaned, main ground point has been redone, coolant temp sensor replaced. IIRC, we've also checked the MAF. He said he checked all the vacuum lines and hoses and they seem to be OK.
The car also has red-top injectors, 3.0 bar FPR, red box apc, SD chip in a '93 900T ECU, and 010 distributor.
The connection at the hall effect sensor has been repaired, but it's still finicky sometimes. I'm thinking it's an ignition issue, but I can't narrow it down. Looking to the board for advice.
