I'm happy with the 2.1L non-turbo+ 5 speed, but then again
I drive it pretty gently. Convertible-specific things to
check is that the top goes up and down smoothly. evenly, and
quietly. Gurgling may just mean the fluid is low. Tops can
be expensive (especially if you have to replace the piece with the
glass) AND there's a lot of labor to replace them. You can patch
rips to get a couple of extra years from the top, but it looks
ugly.
Actual top metal pieces seem VERY expensive. You can pull the back
seat and check the top hydraulic pump and hoses.
Check the floor pads for dampness, but you may just have to
live with that.
Other than that it's regular C900 stuff covered here like rust,
motor mounts, records... Don't forget the stomp test (search
"stomp test") for the ABS system. Expensive to fix.
I love mine. There's something just plain luxurious about a
4-seat convertible. A throwback to an earlier era or something.
