Over the years on many cars, I've had fuel pump relay problems with older fuel pumps, and I think current draw gets high, or grounds at pumps go bad etc., and then the relay contacts suffer from high heat and large arcs.
So you're probly right to look at your pump as well as just changing the relay.
You know, you can pop the cover of a relay and maybe clean up the contacts, with a strip of wet-or-dry sandpaper or something coarser, sometimes something as fine as a strip of coarse brown paper bag paper. May buy more life out of the one you have.
