A few things Gene...
Best to remove the staples that hold the black plastic end piece to the vent housing, not the staples that hold the end piece to the corrogated tube. Seems like you've already done that though. I usually don't staple them back together, just insert the end piece securely back in the vent housing. It's easiest done if you pull the top grill out of the vent opening. It should just pop out with a little effort. With it out, you can guide the end piece back in the vent housing easier from the front of the dash.
The black straw thing came out of the left vent screw holes. The rest of the screw guides do not have the guide straw. You can add them with plain old straws if you'd like, but they are not necessary. The number two screw can be guided through the proper retainers via the light switch hole. The number three and four can be guided through via the stereo opening. Some guides have a little bit of white paint on them to make them easier to see inside the dash. If yours don't--you can add some. If any of your guides are broken, you'll need to pull the whole fascia to repair them. If they are broken, ask and Ill tell you how I've done it in the past.
While you have the fascia off it's a good time to make sure all the bulbs in the dash are working. There are three bulbs in round sockets in the vicinity of the hvac controls and the cigarette lighter.
I like to disconnect the heater control arm from the switch as I'm taking the fascia off and leave it connected at the heater valve.
If you are disconnecting the distribution switch wires, make careful note of how they were connected. There are extra unused barbs. Reconnecting the switch incorrectly can cause overheating and melting of wires in the dash and can burn out the dash fan.
You are probably aware at this point that the four mounting screws are different lengths and need to go back where they came from. IIRC, they are marked with the appropriate number of rings on the shaft near the head of the screw as to what hole they go in.
You will probably have disintegrated foam tape where the fascia vents go into the housings. Your choice as to weather you want to replace it while it's apart.
