I'm in the process of trying to replace my instrument cluster on my 91 900 Turbo Convertible. It's a Canadian Car and I'm replacing the Km unit with a US miles unit etc. In spite if reading every possible post on the subject of removing the instrument panel, I'm stuck.
So far...I've removed the steering wheel, the ashtray and bracket, the four long thin bolts that go up from the bottom and I disconnected the temp control rod through the driver side speaker opening. I have the instrument panel loose but I can only pull it out about approx 1.5 inch on the left side and approx .5 inch on the right side. I noticed there is a heater vent tube connected to the left dash vent and it has staples across the the hose and plastic fitting to keep it from separating. They appear to be factory fasteners. I suspect something similar on the right side. To make matters worse, a thin black hard plastic tube (like a soda straw) approx 6.75 inch long and 1/4 inch O.D. fell out of the panel and I have not a clue where it goes or what it is for.

Everyone on the posts I read make this task seem so easy. What should I do about the vent hoses that are stapled? Are there any other things that must be disconnected? I disconnected the battery.
Any help would be appreciated. I need to pass NY state inspection and I can't go further at this point.
Thanks,
Gene
