Paint, paint, paint. My Ed Grey SPG, '88, had a very faded rear hatch and I had a local (Omaha at the time) paint shop mix me a quart and then a spray can of that paint colour. The spray can(s) are fantastic. Though I realize the bulk of you are considering a professional 1 or 2 part spray, this spray can is pretty good. I had an indie say, "who sprayed your door"? I said, me, with a spray can. He couldn't believe it. That being said, my newest rust free AZ SPG has a LOT of micro cracking in the paint job. Not sure the paint is original, but looks good if severely buffed. Interestingly, I had some "goof off" chemical that is supposed to take off pine tar, ect. and just rubbed the H out of the area. I found that this product took off a thin layer of paint and actually got rid of the micro scratches in the paint if I worked the chemical for 2 minutes (~10" x 10" area) and then buffed it aggressively with a clean cloth. NOTE: I have a suspicion that the PO had the car painted (non clear-coat) which may have made this possible. So I've spent the last two days buffing with this stuff and it looks pretty good. Also went over it with some Nu-shine scratch buffer to finish it off. Anyway, I think if you pay for the premium and do the prep yerself, that avenue is a decent way to go ($$).
