so this makes me think of bicycle gear/chains: you're supposed to replace the gear sprockets and the chain at the same time....never just one of them,
IN an extreme case, you'd get tooth hopping/skipping, but that's on a bike, and that is with a tensioner that your car doesn't have. on a bike that sucks.
I can only imagine that if that happened on a car with 100s of ft-lbs of torque, you'd shred those valuable gears pretty quick. However the teeth are probably long enough to not worry...
but the gear tooth faces are worn according to their chain, and there'd be microscopic differences that may affect the progression of even more wear if the gear chains are swapped.
I'd be more worried about the length of the stretched chain, but don't have a solution for you since it is almost impossible to obtain these #8 sets. If only there was a tensioner there.
