are the dents on your existing door so bad that you can not push them out from behind and skim a little filler over them to make them smooth again? Then you'd "only" have to blend old and new paint.
If you're in the rust belt, I'd probably say go with the white door as that removes one possible thorn in your side before it happens. You will have to sand any of the doors prior to painting as part of your prep work.
Are you doing the painting, or is someone else doing for you? The paint work is the most simple part of the process. Prep is key! If you're concerned about "originality" looks, you could paint the whole door, otherwise would only need to do parts that show.
