Both inner shafts popped out of Cv joints? Posted by SaabAficionado [Email] |
Replacing my front wheel bearings: pulled the hubs off, got the new bearings pressed in and was about to replace everything when I noticed the inner part of both driveshafts had popped out of the cv joints. I didn't pull on them hard or anything. Just loosened the axle nuts and the outer joints slipped right out of the hubs. So I just worked the inner shafts back into the cv joins and put it all back together: MISTAKE! Now I have a distinct wobble under acceleration and a whining noise when the car is parked, running and in neutral with the clutch released. Soon as I push the clutch in it goes away. I only drove it a few hundred yards like this to hopefully avoid further damage. Did I possibly lose a few needles? Why would the shafts just pop out like that? I replaced the inner cv joints and boots a year ago and it was great till now. Maybe I didn't press the shafts into the joints enough then to seat the circplips?
