Ho, ho, ha, ha, to (well, you know where)
Since you were able to get it to fire a bit when you sprayed starter fluid into the throttle body, you have spark. It may be intermittent, but at some point you get spark at some point. So distributor orientation isn't a complete problem for the moment.
If I'm going things that you've already tried, please forgive me for repeating.
It sounds like the ECU isn't getting the pulse signal that it needs from either the ignition module or the EZK box (looks like an APC box, mounted in the same spot as an APC, but controls spark timing instead of boost.)
The ECU needs to receive a pulse signal indicating ignition pulses in order to energize the fuel pump relay and to pulse the injectors.
Do you have an appropriate noid light that you can plug into an injector connector to see if they injectors are being pulsed while the engine is being cranked? If it flashes, then the ECU is receiving the required pulses and doing what it needs to do with the injectors. Then you have to look at the fuel pump circuit.
If not, then the problem is upstream. There's a link on the LH 2.4 No Start page to Hall Effect sensor tests (http://townsendimports.com/Web/electrical_system_folder/halleffecttest.htm)
You've probably seen it before, but below is a link to the Townsend Imports LH 2.4 No Start page. Your car has a 2.4.2, which has a few differences, but the troubleshooting for this problem is essentially the same.
Just out of curiosity, have you worked on Pratt & Whitney radial engines? I've been reading about them a lot lately. I would have loved to have been an aircraft mechanic. SAABs are about as close as I will get to that profession.
