Hi Ray:
Do an internet search and you will find numerous posts on many forums about fixing circuit boards from computers, printers, game consoles and even cruise control ECU's from all sorts of other auto makers like Audi, etc. Earlier electronics like classic Saab 900 ECU's used lead-based solder that has a lower melting temp. I delayed trying this for the same reasons as you but figured in the end why not try it since I had three NonOp ECU's and only need two. Plus, re-soldering joint by joint is not only time consuming but might also damage components if incorrect solder or temp is used. After baking and inspecting, the joints all look very uniform and perfect. Just made a long trip and used a baked cruise ECU continuously without any problems - in fact it never worked better. I'm stoked on it...
