I modded my own distributor to get about the same effect that Dave gets, but it is a lot of work, and if I had to do it all over, I'd probably just have bought his. However, I am a tinkerer by nature (more for the learning experience than anything else), so here's what I did:

There's a picture that Jak was kind enough to post for me a bit further down the thread:

Overall, this has been the most satisfying mod I've ever done. It really makes the car immediately more responsive and the car simply feels much more powerful. As you'll note in the posts, I did this before I even got a 3.0 bar FPR. Sorting out the "immediate dump spring inadequacies" of the capsule is one of the most noticeable improvements in the performance of the car you'll ever make. In some respects (IMHO), better than the FPR, new chips, injectors, or front-mounted intercooler!!!

Rather than grinding down the "thicker part of the arm" as Dave does, I took a different approach I'd read about elsewhere on the performance page. I drilled out the stop, ground it down on one side into a cam, and then inserted a screw through the other side (epoxied the threads into the stop. On the outside of the capsule, I soldered a bolt of the appropriate size (to match the screw threads) so that I can fine tune my the timing of my boost under pressure (to get a nice 8-10 degrees at max boost) from a base timing of 20 degrees. Once set, this gets locked down with a second bolt.

The adjustable cam set-up lets me quickly re-set the max boost timing (to 8-10 degrees) at times when I have to set the base ignition timing back to the stock 16 degrees (like when I set the engine up for emissions testing or very long highway road trips where I want maximum gas mileage). I can re-tune both settings in about 10 minutes.
