or was it a bad flywheel bearing? a bad bearing makes the clutch disk spin along with the flywheel when it shouldnt, making it harder to put into gear becuase the input shaft is now turning the transmission over at idle speed. a poor slave cylinder wont disengage the presure plate completely from the disk and flywheel also making it hard to change gears. you may think you have a tranny that's going out, but its the slave ! one guy i know had a pressure plate fail - engine would not turn over because it was locked up to the tranny regardless of being in neutral or gear. anyway you get the picture - worn clutch components can cause lots of different symptoms depending on which component is worn.
