Drilling busted studs out of the head Posted by vvack0matic [Email] (#1443) [Profile/Gallery] (more from vvack0matic) on Fri, 28 Dec 2012 08:12:26 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have a motor with not one busted exhaust stud but two. One of the studs (upper far right stud) had been drilled and threads re-taped in the head and the new stud is in. The second stud (lower far left) is turning out to be a pain, re-taping with new threads the new stud doesn't want to grab and screw in. Are the threads on the stud regular or metric? I taped the head with metric threads an nothing, I'm going out to buy a regular thread tap set today.
Now what bothering me,.. when drilling the head stud the hole in the head for the stud only goes so however I drilled it a bit farther than where it suppose to stop and looking in the stud hole I broke through, Question is, on the lower far right stud is there a radiator fluid hole that runs behind the stud or is it a dead air pocket.
That being said, I'm not sure if I broke through the back of the stud hole on the upper far right stud and don't want to pull the new stud to look, but worst case scenario lets say I did, is there a radiator hole that runs behind this one also? Ill try to add a pic.
I`m thinking of injecting j-b weld in the stud hole before inserting the new stud, would it matter or should I skip it?
