Didnt use time-sert Posted by vvack0matic [Email] (#1443) [Profile/Gallery] (more from vvack0matic) on Sat, 29 Dec 2012 14:45:10 In Reply to: JIMMY whats a time-sert ?---, SaabStalker [Profile/Gallery] , Fri, 28 Dec 2012 20:13:42 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I looked it up and from what i gather its pre-made threads that slide into the drilled out hole, but didn't need them.
I used a 7 mm tap to tread the holes didn't want to go to the 8mm being it looked way to big. But thanks Jimmy for the right size, not more than a few seconds after screwing in the 8 mm the stud went in,.. wheew what a bear that was. don't ever want to do another 2 is enough, as for how tight they are,... let me put it like this, I`d bet 75% chance the new stud would snap if someone tries to remove them.
Now it looks like I need a new/used exhaust manifold because the one that was removed looks like it has a crack in it, the hair line fracture may be nothing but I`d rather just replace it.
Only thing that has me concerned at this point is the hole that is behind the stud from drilling to far, not only is there a hole but when spinning new threads metal shavings dropped through the hole, hopefully there is just a dead air-pocked behind the stud and it wont be an issue.
