Well I hoped that was all it was, but the cable conduit looks fine, as does the cable itself. Where it goes into the transmission also looks fine (not loose or abraded or worn. That's what puzzles me so much. It occurred to me that it could be stretching or wearing, and sort of compensating for the stuck governor (as the governor forces higher upshifts, the throttle cable stretches/wears and this keeps the shift points about the same) but I don't see any evidence of that. That's what makes me think it's some valve inside the transmission that is sticking. There's little I can do about that, I suppose, but it would be nice to have an idea of what is going on.
