Greetings, fellas.

In a case someone is interested (or will be) while digging into poor windscreen washing, here's what I've found right away on my bench:
- '93 washer pump with ~250 000 km on the clocks: 1.8 bar
- '87 washer pump with unknown mileage: 1.7 bar (off a parts car)
- '85 washer pump with unknown mileage: 1.2 bar (bought used)

All test were carried out on genuine VDO pumps and using pure H2O, when switched to winter washer fluids (alcohol-based) - the pressure dropped proportionally to fluid density. Haven't done any new VDO pump (or noname), but I'd expect it to be within 1.8-2.5 bar range (standard values for washer pumps).

Brand new check-valves go open at 0.3 bar, used ones (giving troubles) open at higher pressure at round 0.7-0.8 bar.

According to stats I've found, usually it's the check-valves chargeable with a weak fluid jet. It's worth replacing them every 2 years or 50 000 km (30 000 miles) whichever comes first. Original VDO washer pump goes for ~15 years. Lifespan of the pump and check-vavles goes shortened should they be run on water and go frozen (water expands when freezing into ice - and strains the enclosure).
