Subject Car: 1993 Saab 900S 4-door manual with 95,000 miles.
Ok so this problem has been on this BB and others with no resolution so I'll try to stimulate a discussion on it. There appears to be a common problem with C900's where the Parking Brake and Brake fluid light remains on after starting the car or just leaving it in the 'run' state without starting, with either the car hot or cold. It may remain on for up to 15 minutes after which it slowly fades out. I have seen this on other C900's and the other one I have (92T) exhibits the same thing but to a much lesser extent (the lights are dimmer and go out in less than 1 minute). Some have said it is an ageing feature(?) But all C900's don't have it. There is likely a discret cause, any ideas?
It appears that the lights are picking up a ground that they shouldn't. The wireing diagram shows that the only way a light should light is by hand brake use, or low hydraulic fluid.
So far I''ve read through the BB's and done the following:
Replaced the accumulator (it needed it).
Checked the alternator and it is charging at 14.5 volts after regulator change. Also added another ground.
Added another ground to rear lights (suggested here)
Checked all ground points in the car
Removed all relays and checked for corrosion across pins
Removed all fuses and checked for bad connection/corrosion
Checked all light bulbs for corrosion which causes leaks to ground
The car runs very well all other dash lights and accessories work as expected. This one has got me stummped. I got to believe others out there have the same problem. So why do I care ... state inspections and something is wrong and could get worse.
