Sawzall success, but... Posted by DET17 [Email] (#1254) [Profile/Gallery] (more from DET17) on Thu, 7 Mar 2013 03:35:55 In Reply to: Steel your crazy, Vvack0matic [Profile/Gallery] , Fri, 1 Mar 2013 07:42:09 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
it was not a 2 minute procedure. Blade might have been older, but more like 5~10 minutes. Quite a bit of shaking. I just switched positions from L to R and finally sawed thru.
In section, sure looks like all aluminum. FWIW, this slave was NOT an OEM SAAB slave as I recall, so perhaps the materials were inferior. I've had about 3 of these fail now, and read somewhere here that the OEM slave had chrome plated steel inside so no corrosion would occur.
Also, the slave INDEED began to bind on the blade as it cut thru.....the pressure of the clutch fingers translated the bearing side back toward the trans. I just kept pulling the blade out and starting another cut......
Dumb enough to start.....stubborn enough to finish. Next time (if ever), I will try the nut method.
