It all started when the cooling fan wouldn't come on. I replaced the radiator, water pump and tried 89 degre thermostat and relay with no luck and bled the system properly over a period of about 6 months when I had time to work on the car.I disconnected the heater core and connected the the heater hoses from the block with a "U"shaped hose.Rigged up a toggle switch for the fan. I overheated the car a few times but there is no evidence of a cracked block ie. no oil in the coolant. The last time I ran the car there was smoke coming from under the dash. Burning electrical smell. I pulled the heater core to change the valve. The car starts and idles good but seems to be running on half power when driven??? There dosn't appear to be any burned wires under the dash either. What are the 3" wire coils that sit above the heater core? Is it possible that they were overheating and causing the smoke? Any ideas on what I burned out and what the power loss issue is?
