at this point, I would stay away from a c900 automatic for regular long highway use. The low mpgs and risk of failure is not worth it imho. At least the 9000 auto has 4 gears.
So with the 9000's you'd have the option down the road of swapping body parts (if one rusts or gets damaged)... you might also have the option of swapping in a stick if the auto fails (though check how do-able that is in a 9000 - I've never owned one let alone been there).
Another way to look at it is if you got the 900, you'd have some variation: a different car with different attributes. That can be fun. I really appreciate the 9-5's on the long haul trips nowadays, but the c900 is way more fun around town... they compliment each other nicely.
Another thing you might car about is crash-worthiness - the 9000 is a bit more safe than a 900, though a 900 is a good safe car. Rust plays a factor there though...
good luck...
