Front control arm bushing replacement Q's...... Posted by DET17 [Email] (#1254) [Profile/Gallery] (more from DET17) on Tue, 23 Apr 2013 10:12:31 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Got a couple for the folks who've BTDT. Just as soon as I remove my front springs (DANGER WILL ROBINSON!!!).
1st - is it acceptable to use synthetic grease when pressing the OE style rubber bushings back into the UCA / LCA mounts? Tried doing the first couple with soapy water, and no joy. We actually put 3 of the LCA bushings into the mounts using the SYN BLEND grease. Now I'm concerned about the grease destroying the rubber :-( Don't want to press them back out, but I'm not wanting to ever revisit this again, so I'll do what ever it takes.
2nd - Bentley says to reinstall these bushing mounts at various angles (noted there) and pretorque at those angles. From other rides I've rebuilt, those folks have all said to leave the bushing fixation (bolts/nuts/final torque) loose until the vehicle is fully (almost) loaded with weight, and sitting at ride height. THEN they say to torque the rubber bushings. The idea is that you get 1/2 the angular torsion in suspension travel from the "weighted at ride height" elevation; this to prevent too much torsional angulation of the bushing (if that is actually a word...if not, I just invented one).
LMK wizards, I'm sure many of the 900C faithful have traveled this road.
