Switching from SRS wheel to non-SRS wheel. How?

I assume the splines, etc on the column are the same for all steering wheels, but is it as simple as removing the clockspring from the SRS car, removing the slip-ring from the non-SRS car, and moving everything over to the newer car, or are the upper columns totally different, and this is a big messy job?
I'm well aware that I'd have to fab up some wiring along the way, but since a horn button simply grounds a wire, it should be fairly easy.
right?
