It's an integral part of the system, and at the very least, usability will suffer, as the system will not be able to maintain rest pressure, and will have to build up pressure every time you start the car, resulting in longer crank times. Also, by keeping the fuel in the lines under pressure, a hot motor on a hot day can't vaporize the fuel, resulting in a no-start condition. I had that happen to me on a 1976 99...
They're easy to replace, though I've not needed to buy one in a long time, so they may be hard to locate and buy. OTOH, there is nothing special about a Saab fuel accumulator that you shouldn't be able to find one for a VW, Audi, Volvo, etc., basically any car that used a CIS system in the '70s and '80s.
