Vvack,
We should probably talk off the board since this may be a business thing. I'm sure I can help you one way or another if even only with advice. A freshly rebuilt unit should not leak at all. On the bench the engagement of the synchromesh components, along with the clicking of the detent ball, can be felt as a sort of light snapping or clicking but it's present equally in all five forward gears. If you detect some special noise or feeling in only first and third then I'd suspect a problem. The use of some kind of assembly lube (such as 10w30 oil) when rebuilding a manual gearbox is common practice among competent rebuilders. That assembly lube will prevent corrosion from forming for a long time if the unit is stored in a plastic bag and kept clean and dry. Filling it with oil should not be required....HOWEVER, in this case doing so telegraphed that the unit is not sealed properly. Further, the "synchros" (synchromesh assembly components?) are no more susceptible to rusting than any other steel internal part so how's that make sense. If he's referring to the "synchro" balk rings, which are bronze,......well shit......they're bronze...rust? If you see my name highlighted near the top of this post just click on it and that will allow you to email me. If not, then post again in this thread and we'll figure out something.
