I think the bigger concern is if the body itself has rust starting. Taking things apart will help you see, but rust on the suspension components is more correctable than the chassis. Where you may find issues is along weld seams, spring seats, pulling carpets can expose rust.
Jon's cars are amazing, and his photo repository also! I would love to do a full restoration like that, but it does take time and money... so it really depends on what you are going for. It sure wouldn't hurt to get them powder coated! They will look better and last longer. I would certainly do that if I was aiming to keep the car minty fresh. Especially if I needed/wanted to do other suspension work anyway. But in terms of rust on a daily driver, it's usually the body that gives out first...
