Upgrading SPG Performance? Posted by Carraig Dhubh [Email] |
In the course of restoring a recently acquired SPG, I am going to consider upping the ante a bit in terms of performance. I do not want to deviate dramatically from the standard package as I want the car to look and feel authentic but some increased performance would be nice.To be honest, I am not technically minded enough to be able to prescribe or design a nice package for the shop to then deliver back to me, but have been reading about the Trionic 5 system as providing a competent engine management system when seeking higher performance and perhaps swapping out the stock turbo and perhaps upgrading suspension but that is about as far as my ( lack of ) know how goes. I have read some claims about getting uo to 350 HP put of the classic turbo but am I wrong in thinking that the standard Saab transmission would explode when asked to handle that much power or could the T-5 system effectively manage the delivery of that extra power. I am thinking perhaps something more conservative, say 220-240HP and wonder, in broad terms, what would I have to do to the standard SPG set up to get there. Are there upgrades, like the T-5, which are more easily incorporated in the classic set up than say others? Is it a worthwhile exercise in terms of likely end result?
