I have a 1990 SPG that made as 230 WHP (est 260+ at the crank) at the 2011 SOC. I'm on the tube if you search SAAB + SPG + dyno, the red one. I would love the T5 set up, but haven't done it yet. Getting the bits and the crank sensor are the most challenging parts I've heard, but others will know more. You might check out other forums, they have a lot of discussion about T5.

That all said, getting 200 WHP with the standard set up is not too hard. The APC is the key, and I've used DIY and later Swedish Dynamics (SD). The SD APC holds boost more reliably, and was worth the $$ and aggravation (SD can be quirky to work with). After the APC, fuel (I have a JAK EPROM and larger injectors) are important to prevent a lean mixture. I use the stock FPR. Next was exhaust, that got me at least a 1" increase in boost (3" turbo back). With that set up I got about 185 WHP (roughly 200 at the crank). After that it got harder. My SPG's EGR system made steady higher boost difficult, and that had to go.

To get to the 230 WHP I needed a FMIC, and now I can hold 20+ PSI boost all day long. That is an investment in time, money and willingness to do some cutting. It won't fit without some modification.

The transmission in my car has 180k miles, and is still going strong. The key is to not use boost in lower gears (4th & 5th only for me), avoid wheel spin. I also never rush my transmission during shifts. It's managed the high HP for 5 years and 8000 miles. I know it eventually will need to be replaced, but that's OK for me. I have 2 spares and hope to send one to scnwest. I also need to install a 9000 flywheel and clutch, but haven't have time yet. 230 WHP is about the max I can get the stock flywheel to handle, even with aftermarket clutches.

A comment about the power delivery. At 230 WHP. the power can be peaky!
