There's nothing that needs proper spacing for the oil filter adapter that a gasket would be needed for. I just put Anaerobic sealant (aka "518" under Permatex or Loctite brands) on the surfaces, careful not to let any excess get in the oil passages.

As a bonus, the next time you have to do it, there is no gasket to scrape off!
