I think the pros normally use an oxy-acetylene torch to get the rusted fasteners cherry-red. MAPP gas torches are more accessible to the shadetree mechanic, but real MAPP gas is no longer produced and the substitutes are not as hot. Still, it is going to be hotter than propane so is probably worth trying.
