Makes me wonder if it's a sign of a weak or failing AMM. Not that it's the same diagnosis, but I have a LH2.2 1987 SPG that exhibited the same symptoms. Idle at normal and then a drop, catch by the AIC. I swapped in a different AMM, and the idle returned to normal.
So, if you have a known good AMM, then maybe try that if you haven't -- at least it is an easy R&I.
I keep a brand new LH2.4 AMM on the shelf and don't run it in a car unless I'm trying to diagnose. In other words, it is a tool, so I take care of it so next time I need to check a wonky idle on a car, it's there to perform the test.
The outfit called Fuel Injection Corp in Livermore, CA has a program for testing AMMs and rebuilding ECUs -- I haven't used them yet, but started the interview process and will be asking for product services.
