Not the ignition switch Posted by cgwiz [Email] (#1128) [Profile/Gallery] (more from cgwiz) on Tue, 28 Jan 2014 07:28:19 In Reply to: Re: Starter stuck engaged?, aka oldsaab, Mon, 27 Jan 2014 23:23:40 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Unfortunately (or fortunately in this case), the gear set under the ignition switch broke last fall in the run position. Not haveing the time to acquire a replacement, I bypassed the switch, and installed an on/off rocker switch with a pushbutton start. It is possible that the pushbutton stuck, although I've never had that issue before. My thought was that it was just so damnably cold, the bendix didn't return, leaving the starter gear engaged with the flywheel. Car started ok yesterday and again this morning, just wondering what long term damage I may have done to the starter. Once it warms up, I now have access to a parts car, and intend to repair the proper ignition switch then.
