What a duck was that?

Fellas,
please talk to me! Say that you experienced that stuff a lot and it was something simple and obvious like drive-shaft rime.
Yesterday I did a 600 miles trip - if I were elf then it was like making from the Windy there to Detroit and then back - and on the way back there happened some wet snow storm. And then there some weird vibration started happening:
- it was only speed- and torque dependent
- it was like shaking left to right rather then an ordinary vibration like from unbalanced wheels or bad brake disks; it felt like the car was kayaking: left wheel - right wheel, left wheel - right wheel on a high frequency
- I believe I heard there a ticking feel on the gear lever
- it was damn hard. Boy, it was huge and heavy! It was like the whole car was making that very harlem shake thing
- the resonant frequency (read: speed) was slightly different for acceleration (lower) and engine braking (higher); it started at around 53 mph and didn't go away at 85 mph
- if I pushed the pedal to the metal, the vibration wasn't as huge as it was when I accelerated slightly
- I checked the wheel bolts and hub nuts, they were all fine
- I was shitting bricks
- it came and go and when I almost made back home it kinda disappeared
The only explanation I came with was some ice build-up which happened on the drive shafts. But really? Why then it had different resonant frequency on acceleration and deceleration? Why it was the biggest on the slight acceleration only and was lower when I was pushing it really hard? And where the holy hren on the earth did that left-to-right thing came from???!
Guys, please talk to me.
Zig
P.S.
Happy Man Holyday to all gents over here!
