It appears to be a combination of heat and UV Posted by Notnoel [Email] (#23) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Notnoel) on Fri, 7 Mar 2014 16:47:23 In Reply to: Re: FYI, NOS dash seems fine, blue87, Fri, 7 Mar 2014 16:20:46 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Plastics do not do well in direct sunlight. UV degrades them, then the swelling/shrinking caused by heating and cooling busts them up, IMHO. I've seen plenty of these cars that are 20-30 years old that have good dashes and the hard tops seem to do better than the verts, so I conclude that UV is the culprit.
I don't think you are going to get a lot of opportunities to buy an NOS dash anyway, so going with the $500 re-fab sound like the way to go regardless. But a brand new, OEM, uber-rare part is pretty tough to resist. At least for me!
Once I bit the bullet and bought my duplicate of orginal leathers from Saabstuff (before he stopped making them) I have been on a mission from God to make my Cherry Red Vert, really cherry.
