T37 Bands are adjustable Posted by Cmyles [Email] (#1126) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Cmyles) on Mon, 7 Apr 2014 08:56:50 In Reply to: Re: R&R Auto Trans Question, Landjet [Profile/Gallery] , Sun, 6 Apr 2014 19:31:34 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Warning Will Robinson!! Landjet has been sampling someone else's apple-jack I think (stick to the good stuff). Both bands in the T37 are adjustable (I've never seen any transmission with non-adjustable bands) and when all else fails on a high mileage unit tightening them is worth a try, you got nothin to lose. The front band is the second gear band and the rear band is for first ("1" not "D") and reverse. The rear band adjustment screw is accessible from outside the case but adjusting it will only affect reverse and "1" so unless that's where your problems lie it may not be worth doing. The second gear band adjusting screw is inside the rear pan on the servo rocker so you have to raise the car and remove that pan to access it.
When a T37 has wild shift points it's more typically due to a poorly adjusted throttle cable or a sticky governor. You access the governor to remove and clean it through the rear pan also. High mileage units develop other problems, like front drum failure or pump failure, that can not be fixed without rebuilding the unit.
