If you know your way around the car, check down by the feet pedal. The brake and the clutch have a switch mounted to the pedals that are part of the cruise control. Look at the bar that runs from where your feet press the pad about 3 inches above the pad you'll see a switch mounted on the bar of the pedal. Don't play with the switches unless you notice something that needs to be addressed. I had this same thing happen to me before I started fixing on the car myself. I brought my car back to the mechanic and complained, saying ' when I dropped the car off cruise worked now it doesn't. The mechanic immediately opened the driver door got his head down by the foot pedals and did something which fixed the cruise. I don't know what he did or what was wrong with it. Some time after this incident I started wrenching on it.

Locate the switch on the pedals inspect them to make sure the wires are hooked to them and no vacuum lines are pulled. With the car running at idle put your head down by the pedals and listen for a hissing.

If everything checks out the main cruise control module is in the wheel well right above the driver side wheel (USA car) its the black cylinder looking thing that's hooked to the side wall. Down near the blinker lite. in fact if you were to try and change your blinker bulb your hand would be touching the cruise control module. With the motor idling listen for a hissing sound in this area and visually check that the vacuum hoses is plugged into it and there aren't any vacuum hoses near that black cylinder just flopping around that don't leed anywhere.
