outer CV boot replacment: clip and grease? Posted by iveand [Email] (#3155) [Profile/Gallery] (more from iveand) on Sat, 12 Apr 2014 09:41:16 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Greetings,
I am finally getting to my outer cv boot replacement (and getting the bearings which were grumbling and ball joints which were sloppy replaced at the same time). I have the drive axle on my work table now, but that circlip on the outer joint is giving me fits (even with a third hand). I have heard it recommended to pull the tripod bearing off the inner joint and slipping on the boot that way. I'll try a bit more on this outer clip, but may give in and go from the "inner side".
Anyway, on a recommendation I have some "Red Line CV-2 synthetic high performance grease with red moly". Is that acceptable for the outer cv joint? I have heard the inner joint has a lower specification so this should be adequate there.
So, looking for a recommendation on whether to try harder on the outer clip, and then also a confirmation on if the grease I specified is acceptable for the outer joint.
Thanks for all the help over the years,
iveand
