Yes, it can be done. Do you have an internal fitting? They are from Cohline. I have a couple extra that came from Bill Schultz, so they are famous.....survivors from Katrina.
You have to use a special holder tool that clamps down on the fuel line, warm up the plastic with a heat gun, and gently tap the fitting into the line. There is a chance the line will split if you don't slightly chamfer the entry point -- and make sure that there is no debris in the end of the line or the fitting as it will clog the injector making it useless.
