You can get the serrated collar off by pulling very slightly on each tab with a hooked probe.....get the dental tools out......you just have to walk it out little by little and it will eventually come up and off.
The tabs will be deformed slightly upwards, so when you go to put it back in, flatten it out slightly so it has a catch when you push it on.
