I discovered the following that may help diagnose my no crank/no start problem - I can not determine what is below normal in the voltage reading but, the battery is less than 2 years old and was confirmed good in March. I'll have it checked again.
The voltage dropped as follows with the key on for accessories:
Radio - 12.18v
Fan, dome light - 11.92v
Fan, dome light, headlights - 11.74v
I also heard a clicking sound in the passenger footwell area as the headlight switch was turned from off to running lights to full headlights and back to off.
Also heard a low volume whining sound coming from the headlight switch or in that area. Started at low pitch increased to high pitch - then stopped.
After turning fan, radio, lights off I attempted to start the engine - heard two clicks - no start - seemed to come from the alternator or starter area.
I was reading I need to check B+ to ground and D+ to ground - are those designations for alternator terminals? If so, I did not see anything labeled. Where are they located?
I also read I can test the starter by replacing the yellow wire on the starter with a longer wire extending to the positive terminal on the battery. Apparently I can determine if the starter works by briefly touching the wire to the terminal. Will 12 gauge electrical wire work or, do I need something heavier? Thanks.
