Thanks for all the the advise on this matter folks you have been a lot of help. My options at this point are as follows.
1. Used tranny with 140,000. The mechanic at the shop I go to here in southern Maine drove it and will give me a 6 month warranty on it. (I average 6-8k a year) Total on job $1600.
2. I posted an ad in the classifieds here and received a responds from a gentleman in Pa. (Side business) $1095 rebuilt. 300 core. 2yr/24,000 warranty.
3. Eriksson industries. $1650 rebuilt. + core? 1 yr/unlimited
4. Saabsite. $2150 rebuilt. 500 core. 1 yr/unlimited + labor. Saabsite also offers used trannys with 90 day warranties but they don't recommend them. Ha!
Now I just need to get some scratch to together and decide what to do. Any idea how much labor is involved to install? My mechanic says removing engine not needed cause my tranny drops right out. Suggested rear main seal only in addition but nothing else. I asked about clutch and he said he would look at it but if it look alright to leave it cause he doesn't need to remove tranny to get to it at a later date anyway.
